MARYLAND STATE POLICE
BASIC POLICE MOTORCYCLE OPERATIONS/INSTRUCTOR COURSE
This program is tailored to the advanced and experienced officer/rider. Advanced riding skills and techniques are demonstrated by the instructor staff and instilled in the Instructor Candidate. Candidates must also successfully demonstrate these riding skills. The Basic Operations Course curriculum is presented for the Instructor Candidate with demonstration of proven teaching tactics for each skill necessary. Each Candidate is monitored during assigned teaching sessions for competency. Instructor Candidates successfully completing the Instructor portion of the course will then be monitored as they teach during a Basic Operations course. Candidates must student-teach at least one week (40 hours) of a Basic Operations Course prior to receiving Instructor Certification.
The Instructor portion of the course is 50 hours/five days (Monday-Friday). The Instructor Candidate may elect to perform the required student teaching during the accompanying Basic Operations Course, or return during another course teaching cycle.
Candidates successfully completing both portions of the course are certified to administer the MSP Basic Police MC Operations Course.
OFFICERS APPLYING FOR THE INSTRUCTOR’S CLASS MUST PROVIDE A CERTIFICATE FROM THE SCHOOL WHERE THEY ATTENDED THEIR BASIC MOTORCYCLE TRAINING.
