Firearms Investigations and Law Course

The Firearms Investigations and Law Course covers firearms related laws and procedures for law enforcement within the state of New Jersey. Class participants will learn about the various firearms related laws that affect civilians, local and state agencies. Instructors will go over recent law and Administrative code changes, as well as changes to departmental procedure and New Jersey Attorney General guidelines as they pertain to firearms. Instructors will cover how to complete firearms related background checks and investigations. Participants will learn the steps for approving or denying firearms applications. Instructors will cover New Jersey Statue 2C:58, 2C:39, and New Jersey Administrative Code 13:54. Participants will also learn about investigating permits to carry and the new Firearms Application Registration System, (FARS). The instructor will go over how to navigate the program, trouble shooting, and what is required to document during the approval or denial of firearms. Court room testimony will also be covered regarding denial of firearms applications. Each participant will be advised on the procedures listed in the Firearms Investigation Guide Book to ensure uniformity in firearms applicant investigation process. In addition for all those looking for information on the process for retiring law enforcement permit to carry program; instructors will cover this application process as well as laws that pertain to active and retired carry.
