RULES & REGULATIONS 

All In-Service Rules are mandatory in order to keep the Academy clean and orderly. Violations of any of the

following rules may result in the student being returned to his/her department without credit for the course.
 

CLASS TIMES  

All classes begin at 9:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM, unless otherwise indicated in a specific course description.

DRESS CODE

Proper dress for men attending in-service training, unless otherwise specified in the class description, is police uniform or business attire. Women should wear similarly appropriate clothing. Jeans, sweat clothes, sneakers, shorts and tee shirts are NOT permitted.

Dress Code Exceptions: all physical courses – Firearms, CPR and Defensive Tactics. No other dress will be allowed without the prior approval of the chief police instructor.

FIREARMS

Firearms may be worn except during physical interaction classes such as defensive tactics. Gun lockers are available, please see the training staff.

 

CLASS REGISTRATION INFORMATION

ATTENDANCE

Complete class attendance is required to obtain a certificate. If possible, certificates will be distributed at the conclusion of each class.

PAYMENT

Checks or vouchers should be payable to Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute. Billing will be made upon completion of the course. Please do not send payment before being billed.

If the class is offered by an OUTSIDE VENDOR, payment will be made to the OUTSIDE VENDOR. Payment information will be available on the course registration / description sheet.

 

ACADEMY CONSIDERATIONS

ACCIDENTS

All accidents occurring on Academy grounds must be reported immediately to the attending instructor and to the administrative office, and an incident form must be completed.

BREAKS

Breaks are given according to the instructor. A catering truck responds to the academy at approximately 10:25 each morning. Classes normally break for lunch at noon, unless otherwise indicated by the instructor. Vending machines are located in the cafeteria

CELL PHONES/ ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Common courtesy will be used when using a cell phone. All ringers shall be turned off while in class.

EATING/DRINKING

Food and beverages are not permitted in the classroom while courses are being conducted, unless permitted by the instructor.

ORDER

In-Service students are expected to set a positive example for the Basic Academy recruits. Students are prohibited from talking to any recruit attending the Basic Police Class. Offices are to be entered on official business only.

PARKING

Students should park in the designated spaces only. Reserved parking spaces are for academy personnel only. Do not park in spots marked for instructors or staff.

SMOKING

Smoking is not permitted in the building. When smoking outdoors, please use the ashtrays provided.

MISCELLANEOUS

Students are required to clean up after themselves. All garbage should be disposed of in the proper receptacles provided.

The kitchen area is off-limits to all students attending In-Service Training classes unless permitted by the Academy Director or Chief Training Advisor.
